God's Disruptors

Jul 5, 2026    Pastor Dan Spencer

Most of the time when we talk about a “disruption,” it is a negative thing: bad weather that disrupts your family plans; an illness that disrupts your schedule; an unexpected turn of events that disrupts your life. But there is another kind of disruption…a kind of person called a “positive disruptor.”

A positive disruptor is someone who challenges the status quo in a constructive way to make things better.  That is what we see happening in Acts Chapter 5. The church Jesus founded is only months old, and it has already become the single most disruptive force in the city of Jerusalem. Not because the apostles set out to cause trouble. But because the power of God working through His church is going to disrupt whatever system depends on Jesus staying in the background and the Gospel staying quiet.

They have already arrested the apostles once and warned them never to speak the name of Jesus again. As we pick up the story here in Acts 5:12-28, we are about to find out how well that warning worked.
