The Rebellion

In this session, we will read about a guy named Korah and a famous event that is called “The Rebellion of Korah” in the New Testament. Korah was the leader of a rebellion composed of men of renown in the camp of the Israelites. This group rose up against Moses and Aaron. Korah's group basically said to Moses, “Why do you think you are better than everyone else? Why do you exalt yourself? God can speak to everybody – we don’t need you bossing us around anymore.”

But Moses had not exalted himself – he and Aaron had been appointed by God to their positions of leadership. In fact, Moses was a reluctant leader, but he was God’s chosen man. Moses often fell on his face before the Lord, seeking God's guidance.

Picture the contrast between the rebels and Moses: the rebels rose up in their pride, Moses fell down in humility; the rebels took the position of confrontation, Moses took a position of prayer. You can tell a lot about their hearts by the positions they took.

We don’t know how long Moses was down there praying, but we know that when he stood up, he had a clear direction on God’s plan for this crisis.  Let's begin studying in Numbers 16.
