Offerings (Part 2)

Aug 25, 2024    Pastor Dan Spencer

In Session 1, we looked at two of the sacrificial offerings that God required His people to bring in order to come before Him with their sins covered: the burnt offering and the peace offering. We learned how God received them as “a sweet aroma” of their worship.

In this session, we are looking at an event the Israelites were supposed to observe once a year called the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur which means “the day of covering”. It's important to remember that in the Old Testament sins were never completely removed. They were simply covered over. As it says in Hebrews 10, the blood of bulls and goats could never take away sin.

So, although the sacrifices of the Day of Atonement were repeated every year, it was all in anticipation of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world! When He came, He did what the law could never do in all its rituals, and that is to actually remove the stain of sin from individuals who believe in Him.
