The Tree of life
If you don’t know how the story begins, you will never fully understand why Christmas matters. That’s why this series is called “The Tree.” Because before the manger, before Bethlehem, before Mary & Joseph, we need to go back to the opening scene of the Bible. We need to realize that in the center of the Garden of Eden stands two trees.
In the previous session, we looked at the first tree, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, the tree that brought sin and death into the world. We saw how one act of disobedience at that tree changed everything for humanity. We saw how that first tree created the problem that made Christmas necessary.
Now we’re looking at the second tree: the Tree of Life. If you miss that scene, everything else gets blurry.
But when you understand what the Tree of Life meant in the beginning, and what it means at the end – then Christmas becomes even more beautiful. Because the baby in the manger didn’t just come to save us from something, He came to restore us to something. He came to restore us to life – the life God intended from the beginning. That’s the message of the Tree of Life.
