God Rewrites the Story
You can’t tell the Christmas story without mentioning that Mary and Joseph left Nazareth to go to Bethlehem because of a census ordered by the Roman Emperor. It was there that the Son of God entered the human race in the same way every human does, He was born as a baby. They laid Him in a manger. They named Him Jesus.
It happened in Bethlehem. And Bethlehem was God’s plan all along. Seven hundred years before Jesus was born, God gave the prophet Micah a message about where the Messiah would be born. The prophecy in Micah 5:2, which was fulfilled when Jesus was born, begs the question, “Out of the hundreds of options, from major cities to more important places, why did God choose the little town of Bethlehem?” Could it be that He chose Bethlehem because of some other amazing things that happened there in history?
In this series, we will look at three Bethlehem events that tell the story behind the Christmas story. Then we’ll bring it all together on Christmas Day. Let’s begin in the book of Ruth.
