Hope for the Humble
What would Christmas be without Christmas songs? Some people like the old standards sung by artists like Bing Crosby while others like more modern music. Some like heartfelt songs while other like funny songs like "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer." For those of us who love Jesus, we definitely want to hear the truth sung in the Christmas carols. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without them! But even those great hymns of our faith don’t measure up to the original Christmas songs.
In Luke Chapters 1-2, there are four songs surrounding the birth of Jesus, and for hundreds of years the church has called them by their Latin names: The Magnificat (the song of Mary), The Benedictus (the song of Zacharias), The Gloria (the song of the angels), and The Nunct Dimitis (the song of Simeon). In this series, we will look at all four.
This session will focus on the song of Mary in Luke 1:46-56. This is a song of hope: the Lord is strong for the weak, lifting the lowly, feeding the hungry, remembering mercy. Hope!
