As we prepare for another full schedule of missions opportunities in 2025, I wanted to make sure that you were aware of a major change that is happening in 2025 for airline travel.
If you have not already heard, beginning May 7, 2025, a standard driver's license will no longer be considered a valid form of identification for boarding a domestic flight. Instead, the passenger must have a REAL ID driver's license, or they may also use a valid passport, even though it is a domestic flight. The REAL ID system is a more secure screening for applicants and is intended to make air travel safer for all individuals. If you don't already have your REAL ID, apply now, don't wait!. As with any government agency, sometimes there are delays in getting appointments or processing applications. For our students that will be serving, this rule only applies if you turn 18 prior to the scheduled date of your flight. Remember, if you have a birthday and turn 18 during your trip, you will need the REAL ID to return home.
You can learn more about the REAL ID system and how to apply at the following link. https://www.tn.gov/safety/driver-services/real-id.html
For our international trips, passengers will still need a valid passport as before. Remember that most destinations require that your passport expiration date extends for up to 6 months after the date of your travel. Some destinations also require a certain number of blank pages to be available in your passport. Be sure to check the expiration date of your passport now and begin the renewal process early if you are within a year of expiration. If your passport book is almost full even though the expiration date is still good, you may need to renew early to meet the guidelines of your destination. If you are a frequent traveler and this is an issue, you can request a passport book with additional pages when you renew. If you don't currently have a passport and need to apply for one, begin the process now as the processing time can sometimes take longer than the estimate given on the passport website.
You can get more information on applying for a passport or renewing your passport here. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html/
There have also been several changes with visa requirements in various countries around the world this year. As always, the Go office and your team leader will let you know about any visas that may be required for your trip.
Thank you all for your heart to reach the nations! I look forward to the work that God is going to do through you in 2025!
