The Twelve
Picture this: in the hills above the Sea of Galilee, there is a group of men gathered together. How many? Twelve, all leaning in, listening to the one man in the middle: Jesus. This little circle of 13 doesn’t seem very important to those who are passing by, but it is, in fact, one of the most important meetings in history.
That moment wasn’t random. It wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t impulsive. It was deeply intentional. Luke’s Gospel even tells us that Jesus spent the whole night in prayer before calling them.
This moment was a turning point in Jesus’ ministry. He wasn’t just teaching the crowds anymore. Now He was forming a community of disciples – those who would walk with Him, learn from Him, be empowered by Him, and eventually be sent out by Him to continue His mission.
