Come & See!

In the days of Jesus, Jews always avoided Samaria because they despised them. They thought that contact with Samaritans would make them ceremonially “unclean”.  But Jesus needed to go through Samaria. It was necessary, not just because it was a shortcut, but because Jesus had an appointment. He had already set in motion a plan, and arranged hundreds of little details to ensure that He would arrive at a certain well in a certain town at a certain time to meet a certain person.

And that is how much Jesus cares about individuals. It was a daily chore for women to go to the well to get water. The women would bring their empty water-pots and fill them up. When they would meet up at the well, it was a time to socialize and catch up.  Usually, they did this at the cooler part of the day – but this is noon, a warmer time of day. Why did this woman go then? And why did she go alone? Probably to avoid the other women, their judgment, the shame for the life she has lived (and is living).

But here comes Jesus crashing through all the social barriers. In the course of His conversation with her, He finds a point of connection with the Gospel and her whole life changes. Let's see how.
