John the Baptist
This session starts the launch of a brand-new sermon series called “The Gospel of Mark”, where we’re going to follow Jesus through some key moments in His life.
Mark was an early follower of Jesus, part of the original church in Jerusalem, and a friend of the apostles Paul and Peter. Peter was probably the main source for this book, but we believe inspired what Mark wrote and so it is completely accurate and without errors.
If you’re new to reading the Bible, the Gospel of Mark is like a highlight reel of Jesus’ life. It’s the shortest of the four gospels, but it is fast-paced, action-packed, and laser-focused on one thing: presenting Jesus as the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
It doesn’t take Mark long to get to the point; he starts with Jesus in motion. You will notice that there’s no nativity scene here. No shepherds, no manger, no Christmas story. Mark skips the prelude and dives right into the mission. Please find Mark 1:1-15 and lets see how Jesus is introduced to us, how John the Baptist prepares the way, and how God calls us to respond.
